Am Freitag, den 16. November 1990 wurde in der Motzstraße 19 Berlin-Schöneberg der legendäre HAFEN mit einer großen Party eröffnet.
Auf Grund seiner ungewöhnlichen Gestaltung, seiner guten und offenen Atmosphäre und seines Personals wurde der HAFEN ein beliebter Treffpunkt der Schwulen und Lesben und ihrer Freunde aus aller Welt. Dort, wo es schon zu “Cabaret”- Zeiten wild zuging, dort amüsiert man sich eben am besten!
A big party on Friday the 16th of November 1990 celebrated the opening of the now legendary HAFEN at 19 Motzstrasse in the Schöneberg district of Berlin.
Thanks to its unusual design, open atmosphere and the crew behind the bar, the HAFEN became a popular meeting-point for gays and lesbians and their friends from around the world. It seems the best parties still take place in the corner of Berlin that was notoriously wild back in the days of ‘Cabaret’!
Für uns, die Betreiber, Mitarbeiter und Freunde des HAFENs, war es von Anfang an wichtig, dass dieser Ort für alle offen ist. Alle, die das genießen wollen, was eine gute Bar zu bieten hat. Dazu gehören: Flirten, Feiern, Drinks und gute Musik.
From the start, the owners, staff and patrons wanted the HAFEN to have an open door. To welcome anyone looking for the things a good bar has to offer – like good music and drinks, the chance to flirt and have a good time.
Während der langen Wintermonate in Berlin trotzen wir alle vier Wochen den langen Nächten mit Themenpartys wie z.B. der Steinzeitparty, Bunny Party, Las Vegas oder Studio 54 Party.
Zum eigenen Vergnügen und gegen die allgemeine Berliner Gemütslage bleibt dieses Ritual auch in Zukunft bestehen. Im Sommer ähnelt der HAFEN einem Bienenschwarm. Viele Blicke, Becks und nacktes Bein sind garantiert…
In winter, we brighten up the long Berlin nights with monthly parties dedicated to anything from the Stone Age to Bunny girls, from Las Vegas to Studio 54.
It’s a tradition worth keeping up – for our own amusement and in defiance of the seasonal gloom. On summer evenings, the HAFEN buzzes and swarms with bare-legged, thirsty crowds.
In die Geschichte eingegangen sind unser alljährlicher “Koninginnedag”- zum Geburtstag der holländischen Königin am 30. April – und die Filmfestparty zu den Berliner Filmfestspielen im Januar. Viele Aktivitäten – wie z.B.das Motzstraßenfest, der Teddy-Award (schwullesbischer Filmpreis auf der Berlinale) und der Red Ribbon Rave- sind von HAFEN mitinitiiert und/oder unterstützt worden. Auch zum alljährlichen ChristopherStreet Day machen wir einen Wagen.
Other unforgettable happenings include our annual ‘Koninginnedag’-celebrating the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands on 30 April -and the Filmfest party thrown every February to mark the Berlin International Film Festival. The HAFEN has co-founded and/or sponsored any number of events, for instance the Motzstrasse street party, the Teddy Award (the gay and lesbian film prize of the Berlinale) or the Red Ribbon Rave. The annual gay pride Christopher Street Day parade always includes a HAFEN float.
Der HAFEN ist mehr als eine Bar. Er ist Wohnzimmer, family, Freundeskreis, kurz: ein Ort der Freude und Lust. Hier hat jeder die Möglichkeit, seine eigene Identität zu leben, manchmal umstritten, aber meistens geliebt.
Unsere DJs, Barkeeper und Hosts verstehen es, ihre eigene Persönlichkeit in den HAFEN zu integrieren und jede Nacht anders zu gestalten. Die Abende im HAFEN sind daher selten eintönig, was mit 365 geöffneten Nächten im Jahr ein kleines Wunder ist.
The HAFEN is more than just a bar. It’s a living room, a family, a whole group of friends – sometimes controversial, but generally loved. A place where pleasure-seekers can indulge their preferences and desires, where people can be as they choose.
Our DJs, barkeepers and hosts know how to add their own personal touch to the atmosphere in the HAFEN and make sure each evening is different. Monotony is rare at the HAFEN – a minor miracle considering the bar is open 365 nights a year.
